WASHBURN – The Washburn High School Lady Pirates celebrated senior night with a victory in their regular season finale against J. Frank White, last Thursday night.
In a low-scoring first quarter, the Washburn girls allowed the Lady Knights to score only three points while the Lady Pirates put eight on the board for a five-point lead at the end of the first eight minutes of play. After each team scored six points in the second quarter, the Lady Pirates added one point to their lead to send the game to the final quarter with Washburn holding a 27-21 lead. In the final stanza, the Lady Pirates outscored the Lady Knights by four points to post a 45-35 victory and end their regular season with an overall record of 15-11 and 6-5 in District 2-A play.
Brandy Beeler, who earned 16 points, led the Lady Pirates in scoring. She was followed by Haley Nicley with 10 points, Rikelle Bowiln adding six, Ruthie Tolliver with five and four each from Conner Bowlin and Sara Parker.
The Lady Pioneers next action will be Wednesday, Feb. 15 in the District 2-A tournament. The game will be played at Northview Academy in Kodak with a start time of 6 p.m. The boys will play at Northview, Thursday.
