CHURCH HILL – The River Mile is scheduled for Tuesday evening, June 6, at Laurel Run Park in Church Hill. The event is part of the 2017 Skelton Law Racing Series presented by Rogersville attorney Mark Skelton and is included in the State of Franklin Track Club King & Queen Competition, Adult Mile Series Competition and Kids’ Festival of Miles. This event will include a series of races to be run on a certified one-mile course on the scenic paved loop trail in Laurel Run Park, next to the Holston River. The first event will be the Kids Mile for ages 14 and under, with boys running at 6 p.m. and girls running at 6:15 p.m. The Open Mile for ages 15 and above will follow, with men running at 6:30 p.m. and women running at6:45 p.m. According to race director Mark Skelton, “This perfectly flat loop course should result in some very fast times and possibly some new state age group records.”Registration will begin at shelter #10 in Laurel Run Park at 5 p.m. A post-race celebration will be held at shelter #10 for awards and prizes. Male and female awards will be presented for the top overall, top masters, top grandmasters, top senior grandmasters and the top three in age group categories. All participants will receive a commemorative shirt. A State of Franklin Track Club picnic and board meeting will follow the awards.
