CHURCH HILL – Graduates in the 2017 class at Volunteer High School traveled back to their roots May 10 with the Parade of Graduates at their elementary schools, May 10. “The graduating class from Volunteer High School had the opportunity to go back to where it all began – their elementary school! VHS seniors participated in a Parade of Graduates at Mt. Carmel Elementary, Carters Valley Elementary, McPheeter’s Bend Elementary, Church Hill Elementary and Surgoinsvile Elementary School,”said Dr. Michelle Harless, Title I sponsor for Hawkins County Schools.”“The graduates were greeted by enthusiastic crowds of elementary students and teachers. While the graduates had a moment to reflect on their school history, the former teachers had the opportunity to congratulate their former students, and young students were able to think ahead to the day that they would be graduates as well,” she said. Graduates at Cherokee High School will have their parade Friday, Harless said.
