Grainger High School graduate and University of Tennessee sophomore Zach Long capped off the 2017 SEC Track and Field Championships with a race to remember. Long ran in the 5,000-meter (5K) event and posted a time of 13:54, which placed him in fourth place, a half second out of second place. His time in the event was the fastest time at the University of Tennessee in 26 years and ranks him the sixth fastest time in the event in Tennessee track history. After his All-SEC performance, Long now moves onto the University of Kentucky, in Lexington, for the East Regionals. During the weekend prior to the SEC Championships, Long recorded a first-place finish in the Tennessee Challenge in Knoxville, where he took first place in the 1500-meter race with a time of 3:48.
