JEFFERSON CITY–The Rutledge Middle School Lady Pioneer volleyball team rebounded from their first loss last week with a victory at Jefferson Middle School last Thursday evening. In the varsity match, the Lady Pioneers dominated the first set and won 25-8. The Lady Elks battled hard in the second set before Rutledge won, 25-20, to improve their season record to 5-1. Abby Crowe led the Lady Pioneers with seven serving points, seven assists and four aces. Audrey Stratton added seven serving points and seven kills with Gracie Jarnagin recording seven kills. Sydnie Hayes had a team high 13 assists and four aces.
In the junior varsity match, the Lady Pioneers dropped the first set 23-25 before rebounding to win the next two sets by scores of 25-15 and 15-9 in the tiebreaker. The Lady Pioneers were led in serving by Brooklyn Copley, 11 serving points and five aces, while Abby Reagan also had 11 serving points and added two aces. Khaitlynn Coffman was a force at the net as she racked up seven kills. The win improved the JV record to 4-2 on the season.
East Ridge vs. Rutledge
The Rutledge volleyball team hosted their Middle-8 rival East Ridge Middle School Lady Bears, Monday, August 28. The varsity squad, who dropped the first set 25-17, became more competitive in the second set which they lost 25-22. Audrey Stratton had 11 kills and seven serving points with Abby Crowe and Sydnie Hayes combining for 15 assists. In addition, Gracie Jarnagin had five kills.
