DOUGLAS PHILLIPS, 74, Rutledge, went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer, September 9. He was a faithful member of Head of Richland Baptist Church and was retired from the Grainger County School System. He was a lifetime farmer, husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Teresa Ann Doane; brothers, Lester and Lewis; and sisters, Gearldine, Aileen and Brenda. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Phillips; children, Karen Phillips Humann, Diane Smith and Gerald Singleton; grandchildren, Paige, Taylor, Christie, Ashley, Geoffrey, Sarah, Stephanie and Lukas; 11 great-grandchildren; special great-grandson, Neylan; sister, Laverne (Carroll) Whitehead; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, September 11 in the chapel of Smith-Reagan Funeral Home, with Rev. Kim Farrow and Rev. Rodney Satterfield officiating. Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 12 in Head of Richland Cemetery. The family received friends Monday prior to services at the funeral home. Smith-Reagan Funeral Home in Rutledge is in charge of arrangements.
