GUILFORD WILLIAM BOKENKAMP


GUILFORD WILLIAM BOKENKAMP, 93, Helena, Alabama, passed away Friday, September 1 in Helena, Alabama. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1942. He attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, and received his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He served in both the U.S. Army and the Naval Reserves. He worked for the U.S Bureau of Reclamation in Arizona, where he assisted in the building of Davis Dam. He worked as a mechanical engineer for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville and retired in 1979. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and ballroom dancing. He was a Master Mason and attended Powell Masonic Lodge in Powell and was an assistant scout master of Troop 25 at Fountain City Presbyterian Church. He was a longtime member of Powell United Methodist Church. He was the son of William F. Bokenkamp and Pearl Vanosdol Bokenkamp. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 49 years, Ruthanne Pittenger Bokenkamp. He is survived by his children, Edward Bokenkamp (Amy), Sharon Bokenkamp Ziemak and David Bokenkamp; grandchildren, Megan Lansden (Gavin), Brad Bokenkamp and Caitlin Cerise (Michael); and great-grandchildren, Miles and Bennett Lansden. The family held a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville Tuesday, September 12, with Powell Church officiating.
