Eastern Star donates school supplies

BEAN STATION – The members of Tate Spring Chapter #425 Order of Eastern Star donated school supplies to Bean Station Elementary.

The Worthy Grand Matron of Tennessee, Beverly Rogers, asked all chapters in Tennessee to become more active in their local communities. Tate Spring is the only Eastern Star Chapter in Grainger County.

The Worthy Matron of Tate Spring, Kathryn Stewart, asked the members to bring school supplies to the monthly meeting. They assembled a collection of paper, pencils, crayons, notebooks, rulers, folders and backpacks. The supplies were delivered to Bean Station Elementary. The school administration will be able to distribute the materials to the students as they are needed during the year.

The Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women may belong. Only men who are Master Masons are eligible and only women with specific Masonic affiliation may be a member. Evidence of the charitable nature of the organization is shown by monies donated to support Shriners’ Hospital for crippled children, cancer research, Heart Fund, Knights Templer Eye Foundation and other organizations.

Rogers has chosen youth scholarship and Shriners’ Hospital as her foremost objective for 2017. Anyone interested in finding out more about the organization should contact a member.
