Bean Station and Joppa girls battle to the end

RUTLEDGE – Last Thursday evening, the undefeated Bean Station Elementary School Lady Buccaneers traveled to Joppa to take on the undefeated Joppa Elementary School Lady Trojans. The result was a thrilling game in which the winner was not decided until the final horn.  

The Lady Trojans got four points from Catelin Newman and two points each from Marley Hipsher and Jenna Watson to open an 8-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, eight points from Taylee Rutherford in the second quarter allowed the Lady Buccaneers to tie. Joppa and Bean Station continued to score for a 12-all tie at the half. In the third quarter, the Lady Bucs outscored Joppa five points to four to take a 17-16 lead into the fourth quarter. 

With a win on the line, both teams had their best quarter of the game as Joppa and Bean Station scored 11 points and the Lady Bucs pulled out a thrilling 28-27 victory. Taylee Rutherford led Bean Station with 16 points and was followed by Anna Dalton, who scored six, while KatiAnn Dossett, Jaycee Susong and Hadassah Zemlicka scored two points each. 

Catelin Newman led the Lady Trojans with 11 points and was followed by Jenna Watson and Maddie Hurst, who scored five points each. In addition, Marley Hipsher tossed in four points, while Taylor Watson adding two points. 

Bean Station 40  

Union Heights 28 

 The Bean Station Lady Buccaneers took on Union Heights Monday, October 30 in a game that was played in the Bean Station gym. With Taylee Rutherford scoring eight points and Anna Dalton and Hannah Collins adding two points each, Bean Station jumped to a 12-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Rutherford then tossed in another eight points in the second quarter with Anna Dalton adding two points. Bean Station matched the 10 points scored by Union Heights to take a 22-12 lead into the halftime intermission.  

In the third quarter, the Lady Bucs got four points each from KatiAnn Dossett and Rutherford and two more points from Anna Dalton to open a 34-14 lead heading into the final quarter of the game. With the game well in hand, Bean Station coach, Mica Rutherford, emptied her bench as Bean Station scored a 40-28 victory.  

Taylee Rutherford totaled 20 points and was followed by Anna Dalton, and KatiAnn Dossett, who scored 6-points each. In addition, the Lady Bucs got two points each from Harlie Seibers, Mallory Smith, Hadassah Zemlicka and Hannah Collins.
