Special to Grainger Today

JEFFERSON CITY – Jefferson Rural Clinic, which serves Grainger as well as Jefferson County, has recently been awarded a $150,000 grant from the Trinity Health Foundation of East Tennessee.

The money will be used for the clinic’s “Bringing Back Smiles” dental care program.

The clinic, which is staffed by volunteers, provides low-cost medical and dental care to uninsured indigent adults, age 19 and older. The clinic is currently located at 126 W. Old Andrew Johnson Hwy., in Jefferson City, but will be moving to its new, larger location at 1413 Russell Ave., across from the Jefferson City swimming pool, early next year, possibly in January.

Along with the clinic’s move to the new location will come a new name, yet to be selected. Executive Director Gaile Avent said, “We want a more inclusive name. We have served hundreds of people from Grainger County over past years and welcome them.”

The clinic is sponsoring a “Name the Clinic” contest, with valuable prizes, at its website, jrclinic.org.
