SNEEDVILLE – Last Tuesday, December 5, the Washburn High School Lady Pirates traveled to Hancock County and continued their early season winning streak with a decisive victory over the Lady Indians.
The Lady Pirates wasted no time in taking control of the game as Washburn took a 13-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and then ballooned the lead to 30-8 at the half. With the Lady Pirate reserves seeing considerable playing time in the second half, Washburn continued to pull away and post the impressive 51-21 victory over their biggest rival and District 2-A opponent Hancock County.
The twosome of Sierra Bailey, who had 21 points, and Haley Nicley, who scored 19 points, continued their strong play in keeping the Washburn winning streak going. In addition, the Lady Pirates gained seven points from Ruthie Tolliver, three from MaKensey Lay and two points from Rikelle Bowlin.
In addition to her team-leading points, Bailey also pulled down 10 rebounds, while BreAnna Scearce pulled down eight and Tolliver gathered six rebounds. Nicley, who continued her outstanding play at the point, added five rebounds and two assists to her total.
