RUTLEDGE – A County Commission incumbent and two incumbent constables have picked up petitions to run for reelection in the May 1 Grainger County Republican primary.
Luke Stratton, who represents the 2nd District on the county’s legislative body, will be seeking his second term.
Jim “Grimace” Saylor is currently in his first term as constable in the 2nd District. Eddie Evans is in his second four-year term from the 3rd District.
Also picking up a petition was Robert Shuler to run for constable in the 4th District.
In addition to county commission and constable, all countywide offices except property assessor will be on the ballot.
The Democrat and Republican parties will hold a four-county primary to choose nominees to fill a judicial vacancy for the 4th Judicial District created by the retirement of Ben W. Hooper II. The counties are Grainger, Cocke, Jefferson and Sevier.
The deadline to return qualifying petitions to the election commission is Feb. 15.
Grainger County Democrats will caucus before the qualifying deadline to choose their nominees for the Aug. 2 general election.
