KNOXVILLE – Volunteer East Tennessee has announced the call for outstanding adult and youth volunteer nominations, as part of the 2018 Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards.
The organization is coordinating nominations for the following East Tennessee counties: Grainger, Anderson, Blount, Claiborne, Cocke, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Monroe, Roane and Sevier. Nominations are due by January 11, 2018 and can be submitted online by going to www.volunteeretn.org/VolunteerAwards.
The Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards (GVSA), an initiative to recognize outstanding volunteers from each of Tennessee’s 95 counties, is the highest honor a volunteer can receive in the state of Tennessee. One youth and one adult finalist from each participating county will be invited to attend the Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards ceremony in Nashville March 11, 2018.
“Our citizens who serve in their communities as volunteers contribute significantly to the vitality of every Tennessee town and city. They respond to all calls of need from emergencies and natural disasters, to mentoring our youth to providing companionship to the elderly. It is their donation of time that allows community nonprofit organizations to stretch resources and deliver the greatest amount of service possible. This is a small token of thanks in comparison,” said Alyson Gallaher, executive director of Volunteer East Tennessee.
All nominees from East Tennessee counties will be invited to attend the Third Annual East Tennessee Volunteer Recognition Awards in Knoxville April 22, 2018, presented by Home Federal Bank.
