RUTLEDGE – The University of Tennessee recently welcomed a new employee to Grainger County Extension. Lauren Woods will be providing guidance to the FCS (Family and Consumer Sciences) programs.
A Jefferson County native, Woods has an associate degree in Culinary Arts and a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition; she also has a master’s degree in Public Health Nutrition. The associate degree is from Walters State Community College and the bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from The University of Tennessee. She recently became a registered dietician. Woods said she is excited to be part of the community and looks forward to getting to know Grainger County.
FCS programs include, but are not limited to: affordable nutrition, healthy eating, diabetes education, food preservation, food safety, classes about parenting apart after a divorce, first-time homebuyers, bankruptcy and budgeting. More topics will be announced in the future.
Woods will also be working with FCE (Family and Community Education) groups in the community. The groups perform community service, as well as special events such as flower shows, workshops for crafts, education for building a better community and also host some social events.
