Wednesday, May 7 Grainger Today is available for sale at locations in Grainger, Hamblen, Hawkins, Jefferson and Knox Counties. Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority's Neighborhood Center will distribute free surplus commodity food to qualified Grainger County households May 7 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. based availability of food at 7812 Rutledge Pike in Rutledge. For more information call (865) 828-5228. Thursday, May 8 The Ritter Farms Strawberry Weekend will be May 8 through 10 featuring a bluegrass concert Saturday. Performers include Shadow Ridge, S & S Express, The Powers Family, Lost Creek and Walk Softly. Also, a strawberry eating contest with whipped cream is scheduled for Saturday. Financial planning workshops begin May 8 at the Mooresburg Community Center, 318 McNeil Circle. Classes will be Thursday evenings in May from 6 until 8 p.m. Mooresburg resident Marty Dobbins from Edward Jones will offer information seminars about investing for retirement or enrichment. Friday, May 9 Rutledge High School will be having its All Sports Banquet with food service beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the program beginning at 7 p.m. Ticket price for the event is $10 for all non-athletes. Saturday, May 10 The Rutledge High School 6th Annual Golf Team Scramble will be May 10 with an 8 a.m. shotgun at Clinchview Golf Course. The four-man scramble cost, which includes a t-shirt and door prize ticket, is $60 for non-members and $40 for members. The first flight winner will receive $300 with second place winning $200 and third will win $100. The second flight winner will receive $100, flight to be determined after round. The Bishop Family and Friends Relay For Life team will have a bake sale May 10 at Cox & Wright in Rutledge beginning at 8 a.m. with homemade goodies. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Grainger County rabies vaccination clinics are scheduled for May 10. There will be clinics from 1 until 2 p.m. at Washburn School and at the Grainger County Health Department. There also will be clinics from 3 until 4 p.m. at Blaine City Park and at Bean Station City Hall. The price is $6 for a one-year vaccination and $10 for a three-year vaccination that can be given to dogs and cats. Clinics are sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Health and will be held rain or shine. There will be a benefit bake sale to help pay medical expenses for Cindy Munsey at Family Dollar in Rutledge beginning at 9 a.m. Call Brenda at (865) 250-9807 for special orders. The Mooresburg Community Association will have a motorcycle rally to benefit the Mooresburg Meals on Wheels program May 10 at 11 a.m. The group will leave from the Mooresburg Elementary School parking lot at 11 a.m. and travel through scenic country roads. The trip will end at the school with a barbecue. The entry fee for the trip is $10 per rider. Gift certificates and merchandise will also be given away. Big Hill Baptist Church will have its second Saturday singing at 6:30 p.m. featuring Marvin Walker’s New Freedom Church. There will be no singing in June.

Monday, May 12 The Grainger County Parks and Recreation Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the justice center. The Bean Station Board of Mayor and Aldermen will have its May workshop May 12 at 7 p.m. The board will begin work on the budget. Tuesday, May 13 Medic Regional Blood Center will have a blood drive at Holt’s IGA in Bean Station on Main Street from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The Lakeway Area Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Regency Retirement Village at 739 E. 2nd North Street in Morristown. Saturday, May 17 The First Annual Bishop Family and Friends Cuts for the Cure will be May 17 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Jarnagin’s Motor Company featuring several area hairstylists and massage therapist. For a minimal donation of $10 you can receive: spray cut and dry or clipper cut or massage for 15 minutes. Local talents will entertain. Refreshments will be for sale. Saturday, May 24 The Grainger County Humane Society and Morristown AMVETS Riders Chapter 7 will hold the fourth annual Paws & Claws Motorcycle Ride and War Dog Tribute May 24. Preregister online or by phone to ensure a free official ride t-shirt. All proceeds go to Grainger County Humane Society and War Dogs and their handlers serving their county. Donations will purchase items such as coolly packs and Kevlar vests for these war dogs, doggie treats and items for their handlers. Saturday, June 7 The Washburn FCE Club will have a large yard sale four miles off Hwy. 131 toward Washburn June 7 from 8 a.m. until l2 p.m. There will be more than 10 families and lots of items. Cancel if rain. Saturday, June 14 Noeton Baptist Church will kick off Bible School for the community June 14, weather permitting. The event will be for all ages from 3 until 7 p.m. with free food, air rides, gospel singing, face painting, a fish pond and duck pond, and more. The 2008 Wolfenbarger and Allied Families Reunion will be June 14 at the Washburn Elementary School in Washburn on Hwy. 131. The school doors open at 9 a.m., with everyone meeting in the cafeteria. Everyone should bring covered dishes, drinks and table service. Also, bring nay any old photos an family history to share. There will be a protable scanner on hand to make copies.
