Saturday, September 4

The Warwick Family Reunion will be postponed due to lack of attendance. Please contact Cheryl at (865) 335-2356 to help choose the scheduled date. September 25 or 26 are the possible dates for the reunion.

Tennessee handgun permit training class will be held in the training room of the Claiborne County Justice Center in Tazewell September 4 beginning at 8 a.m. rain or shine. Participants must bring a safe handgun, 50 rounds of ammunition and eye and ear protection. Successful completion will allow participants to carry a handgun in Tennessee and several other states. Puncheon Camp Baptist Church, Hwy. 131, Washburn, will hold its quarterly singing September 4 at 7 p.m. Special singers will be Lost Mountain Sounds (bluegrass gospel), Haley Atkins and others. Everyone is invited by Pastor David Acuff.

There will be a 4X4 rock crawl and benefit raffle at Chiniquipin Off-Road Park in Sneedville September 4, beginning at 10 a.m. All proceeds will go to Kingswood School. Students of Kingswood will sell concessions during the event. For directions visit www.ChinquipinOffRoad.com.

Buffalo Baptist youth will have an indoor yard sale. Sept 4 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the church, rain or shine. There will be a lot of clothes, metal frame bunk bed, and much more. Cheap prices. All proceeds will go to the youth group.

Middle Cross Missionary Baptist Church, located beside Bean Station Fire Department, will hold a yard sale September 4 beginning at 7 a.m., and a soup bean dinner beginning at 11 a.m. Dinner will include soup beans, fried potatoes, corn bread, coleslaw, kraut and wieners and a drink for a $5 donation. All proceeds will go to building funds.

Coffee House with Lyrics, 659a Main St., Bean Station, will feature Plagues of Prophecy, Razor for a Goat and more, September 4.

Highland Springs Baptist Church of Blaine will have a benefit yard sale Sept.4, with a variety of items such as appliances, lawn mowers, vehicles and baked goods.

Sunday, September 5

The annual reunion for Seal Chapel School (also known as "Rip Shin") in the Howards Quarter Community of Claiborne County will be held September 5 beginning at 2 p.m.at the Seal Chapel Church House. All former students, teachers, their families, and former and present community members are invited to attend. Attendees are asked to bring pictures or other memorabilia to share. The Corbin family will hold a reunion at Grainger County Park September 5 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

There will be a Harrell family reunion September 5 at Gibbs Ruritan Park, New Gibbs High School. Doors will open at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

The Grainger County Election Commission will be closed September 6 for the Labor Day Holiday.

Tuesday, September 7

Wednesday, September 8

The Mooresburg Community Center will host the Feeding America Food Pantry truck September 8, from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. The Center is located at 318 McNeil Circle in Mooresburg. It is recommended that people arrive around 10 a.m. Orders are processed very quickly and supplies have been exhausted within 30 to 40 minutes in the past. The boxes usually include some canned goods, vegetables, fruits and desserts, but items are not guaranteed. A name and number of residents per household will be recorded before the order will be placed in your vehicle, and everyone is welcome. For information, please call 293-0073.

Thursday, September 9

Grainger County American Legion Post 119, located at 7812 Rutledge Pike, Rutledge, will have a general membership meeting September 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the post.

Saturday, September 11

A Grainger County Humane Society Breakfast Fundraiser will be held September 11 at the newly air-conditioned agriculture pavilion in Rutledge from 6 until 11 a.m. Biscuits and gravy, bacon or sausage, eggs, and beverages will be served. Suggested donation is $5 for adults, children $2. Homemade baked goods will also be available for purchase. Dog and cat food, straw or sawdust bedding, and monetary donations would be appreciated. Pictures of animals available for adoption will be displayed. Proceeds will go to meet the needs of the Humane Society. September 11, from 8 until 10:30 a.m. there will be free coffee and donuts at Post 119, 7812 Rutledge Pike, across from Goodwill.

The families of Will Long and Lillie Long will have a reunion September 11 at 12 p.m. at the Rutledge Community Center across from C.R. Daniels. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish.

Sunday, September 12

Kingswood school will be hosting Biker Sunday September 12. Riders will meet at Colboch Harley-Davidson at 10:15 a.m. KSU at 10:30 a.m. to ride to Kingswood Chapel. Service will begin at 10:45 a.m. and will be followed by fellowship in the courtyard. Lunch will be provided with a $5 donation to benefit Kingswood School. Riders who are willing to participate are asked to bring an extra helmet to give rides to some of the youth on the Kingswood property.

Tuesday, September 14

Mooresburg-Bean Station Little League will have a meeting September 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bean Station City Hall. New officers and board members will be elected. Anyone who wishes to participate should attend this meeting. There are several vacant positions that need to be filled as soon as possible, including the election of a new league president.

Saturday, September 18

The Dandridge Police Department will host a handgun carry permit class September 18. Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. To register call (865) 397-8862 or (865) 356-7423.

The Luttrell Bluegrass Festival will be held September 18 at Luttrell Park from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. There will be food vendors, bluegrass and gospel music, crafters, bake sales and shade tree pickin'. This is a free event. All proceeds will go to benefit the Luttrell Fire Department.

Tuesday, September 21

The Grainger County School Board will meet September 21, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Grainger County Board of Education Central Office, and is open to the public.

Thursday, September 23

The Grainger County Chamber of Commerce will meet September 23 at the new Washburn Community Center at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, September 25

The Grainger County Humane Society will host the Sixth Annual Grainger County Humane Society Ride for Paws & Claws Motorcycle Ride & Rally September 25. All bikes are welcome. Gates will open at 9:30 a.m., and bikes will leave at 11 a.m. With the help of Colboch Harley-Davidson of Morristown and WJDT FM 106.5 & WBGQ FM 100.7, The TreeHouse Band and other local sponsors, Grainger County Humane Society will put on a day of fun, food, music, games and prizes. The Paws & Claws Run begins at Colboch Harley-Davidson, takes a scenic tour of beautiful Grainger County and returns to Colboch Harley-Davidson of Morristown for food, a live band and cash prizes. There will be a community meeting September 27 at 7 p.m. at the Thorn Hill Community Center. Those interested in the Thorn Hill Community Center and Ball Park are encouraged to attend.

Wednesday, September 29

The Hawkins County Personnel Association will be hosting their annual seminar September 29, at Holston Electric Cooperative. Wimberly Lawson Wright Daves & Jones, PLLC will present the program. The cost of the seminar is $45 per person. This includes the registration fee, reference material, continental breakfast and lunch. Thursday, November 11

All are invited to attend a Veterans Day ceremony at the Grainger County Courthouse front lawn November 11 at 11 a.m. (rain or shine) refreshments will follow at American Legion Post 119. Everyone is encouraged to come out and show your support for the Veterans of Grainger County.

Community Events

There will be a Master Beef Producer Program September 25 & October 9 at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., October 5 at 6 p.m. at the new livestock pavilion behind Rutledge Middle School and October 7 Northeast Beef Expo 7:30 a.m. at Greeneville R&E Center. Producers will receive a cap, farm sign and a farm manual covering all topics including: Goal Setting, Genetics, Feeding, Forages, Carcass Merit, Reproduction, Marketing, Management, Herd Health, Cattle Handling, Food Safety and Biosecurity. There will also be one field day. The cost of the program is $160. For anyone who has a Premises ID and BQA number the cost is $60. Refreshments will be available at each meeting. All Grainger County Family and Community Education Clubs (formerly Home Demonstration Clubs) are looking for new members. FCE is open to anyone who would like to connect with his or her community. Tag sales for Washburn have been changed from the ambulance building to the new Community Building.

Middle Cross Missionary Baptist Church will have youth services every Thursday night beginning at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Music on the Town will return for its eighth season in historic downtown Dandridge. Concerts will take place every Thursday evening in September. This is a family friendly, alcohol free event. Admission and parking are free. Food service begins at 6:30 p.m.; music begins at 7 p.m.

Beeler's Chapel United Methodist Church in Washburn invites everyone to attend its ABC Children's Program the second Sunday of each month from 4 until 5 p.m. The program consists of a story, songs and a snack.

The Grainger County Farmers Market will be open every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The community is encouraged to support local farmers and know where their food comes from. If anyone would like to sell, they should contact Anthony Carver (865) 828-3411.

Tag Sales in Grainger County are held at the following times and locations: first Tuesday, Washburn Ambulance Building; second Tuesday, Blaine IGA; Third Tuesday, Thorn Hill Fire Department; and fourth Tuesday, Bean Station City Hall. All tag sales are held from 1 until 5 p.m.
