BEAN STATION – International speed carver/masterpiece carver “Mountain Mike” Ayers will be featured both Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 during The Town of Bean Station’s Harvest Festival.
Ayers’ carvings range from one foot to 14 feet tall. He began chainsaw carving after his uncle challenged him to carve a bear after observing him whittling with a pocket knife. After two days carving the bear, he was hooked.
Ayers operates Mountain Mike’s Whetstone Woodworks in Maggie Valley, and participates in woodworking competitions around the world.
His appearance at the festival is sponsored by Fennell Lumber.
