RUTLEDGE – Grainger County Mayor Mike Byrd has proclaimed Thursday, September 17 through Wednesday, September 23 as Constitution Week in Grainger County.

Thursday, September 17 marks the 233rd anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. It is also the 65th anniversary of the first resolution by the U.S. Congress to observe Constitution Week.

The celebration of the American form of government rests on the fact that the Constitution continues to assure each citizen of the freedoms Americans cherish.

Work places, civic groups, clubs, schools, churches and families are invited to fly their American flags, reflect on the American way of life as outlined in the Constitution, read/recite the Preamble to the Constitution and offer a prayer of thanks for the document that has guided America in its pursuit of life, liberty and happiness for 233 years.

City and county governments, churches, schools and individuals are encouraged to participate in “Bells Across America,” by ringing their bells Thursday, September 17 in observance of the signing of the Constitution and as a chorus of national celebration from “sea to shining sea.”
