Craft fair held in Thorn Hill

THORN HILL – A holiday kickoff craft fair was held in Thorn Hill Saturday, November 14.

The craft fair, which took place at Countryside Family Market, featured area crafters who are invested in their community. The event was held to encourage Grainger County residents to shop locally.

Copper Ridge Crafts, owned by Karlene Greenleaf, features handcrafted blankets, along with smaller trinkets. All blankets can be custom ordered and range from $30 to $35 per blanket. Greenleaf’s husband Joseph is an author who publishes through Swordpoint Intercontinental Limited. He has a selection of books available in the Local Corner at Countryside Family Market.

Phipps Fiber Works, owned by Marcia Phipps, features handmade knitted stockings, socks and ornaments. Phipps uses wool and acrylic to make her products. Items purchased from Phipps Fiber Works are priced at $40 and less. In addition to her business, Phipps teaches a knitting class Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Countryside Family Market.

The Cedar Cabin, owned by Beth Hedden, features hand-painted crafts and hand-crafted miniature sculptures made from needle felting. Each hand-painted sign is painted onto a sawmill plank from Hedden’s home. Her needle felting miniature sculptures are made from wool and alpaca fibers from Thorn Hill’s Sweet Surrender Alpaca Farm and Florida’s Small Beginnings Sheep Farm. The material is washed and hand-dyed before use. Prices vary at The Cedar Cabin.

Haddie Amelia Designs, owned by Cindy Minard, features customized clothing, hats, cups and glassware. Minard offers custom orders and said her Thorn Hill line sells well in the area. Prices at Haddie Amelia Designs range from $6 to $20. Minard’s products are also sold at Clinch Mountain Lookout Restaurant. Anyone who would like to place an order can call (352) 208-8722.
