RUTLEDGE – Lakeshore General Hardware is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Lakeshore General Hardware was founded in September 2000 by four owners to help residents who didn’t want to drive into Bean Station city limits or Morristown get their hardware needs. It is currently owned by Terry Johnson, Destiny Johnson, Heather Shepard and General Manager Van Spangler.
Lakeshore General Hardware sells general hardware for all needs, including plumbing, electrical, tools, automotive, lawn mower, insecticide and cleaning supplies, in addition to propane. It also rents U-Hauls and carpet cleaners. The business also sells a variety of non-hardware items from homemade soaps to apple butter from a local church.
Spangler said the hardware store originally used House-Hasson as its main distributor, but now uses Orgill, the largest hardware company in America, and Wallace Hardware Company in Morristown as its main distributors. Spangler said the new distributors allow him to have more buying power to receive the products residents want. However, he said COVID-19 has caused problems when it comes to placing orders. He said some orders he has placed with either company have been on backorder since April.
Spangler said Lakeshore General Hardware prides itself in fast, friendly service. He said all staff tries to greet everyone as soon as a customer enters the business. He said every customer is offered assistance.
Lakeshore General Hardware has six employees and is locally owned and operated. Anyone who would like to visit the Lakeshore General Hardware can find it at 992 Lakeshore Dr., Bean Station Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The business is closed Sundays.
