RUTLEDGE – One man is dead and another was injured as the result of a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) crash that occurred in Washburn Saturday, August 22.
A preliminary report filed by Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reported a 2018 Honda SXS was traveling northbound on Dutch Valley Rd. when it exited a lefthand curve and drove off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle landed on its passenger side and struck a tree, killing a 31-year-old male passenger.
The driver, David Welch, 31, of Washburn, was injured in the accident. Welch had allegedly consumed alcohol prior to the accident.
A drug test has reportedly been administered.
A third passenger in the vehicle was uninjured.
He had reportedly not consumed any alcohol or drugs.
All passengers in the vehicle were reportedly wearing seatbelts.
Criminal charges are pending against Welch. The accident remains under investigation by THP.
