RUTLEDGE – One of two brothers accused in the June 2, 2018 stabbing death of 28-year-old Bean Station resident Joshua Beasley has pled guilt to voluntary manslaughter in the case.
Travis Lynn Peters, 40, pled guilty to the reduced charge in Grainger County Criminal Court Wednesday, March 31. He was originally charged with first degree murder.
Peters was sentenced to 15 years to be served at 45 percent, and to be served concurrently with a sentence he is serving in Hamblen County of five years. He was given credit for time served from June 2, 2018 to March 31, 2021 (1,034 days). Additional counts of kidnapping and first degree felony murder were dismissed.
Peters and his brother, Daniel Christopher Peters, were both charged in Beasley’s death.
According to reports, the Peters brothers called to Beasley around 8 a.m. Saturday morning and he crossed the street to their house.
Bean Station Patrol Officer Mason Byrd responded to a call of an individual who had been stabbed, and reportedly found Beasley covered in blood, lying in a swing on the front porch of a residence at 234 Ned Clark Road. He reported Beasley had a stab wound in the left side of his chest and was losing consciousness. Beasley was transported to UT Hospital and later died as a result of his injuries.
Witnesses reportedly told officers Beasley had been stabbed by Travis Peters in the backyard of his residence, located across the street at 251 Ned Clark Road. An open knife was reportedly found lying in the driveway at the residence, along with a blood trail leading from the knife to the back door. A witness told officers Beasley had chased the Peters brothers back up onto the porch after being stabbed.
It took several hours for officers to locate the Peters brothers. They eventually located Travis Peters in the woods at 206 Hillcrest Drive. He was charged with first degree murder and held on a $2 million bond. A few hours later, Bean Station officers went to Daniel Peters’ mother’s home after receiving a tip he might be there. After searching the home, they found Daniel Peters hiding in a closet in a bedroom.
