RUTLEDGE – Rusty Bishop has been hired as math interventionist for Grainger County High Schools for the 2021-22 school year, Director of Schools Dr. James Atkins has announced.
Atkins said he interviewed Bishop this week and offered him the position. He said Bishop will leave his job as assistant principal at Grainger High School, effective July 1. However, he has committed to coach the Lady Grizzly Basketball team next season, Atkins said.
The director said he is also interviewing applicants for the position of ELA (English/Language Arts) Interventionist for the entire system, kindergarten through 12th grade.
That position has not been filled yet.
Bishop was a math teacher at Grainger High before he was elevated to the assistant principal’s job. He has coached the basketball team to three straight state tournament appearances. He also coaches softball, but Atkins said he has not decided whether to continue next season.
