Sammy R. Owens, 77, of Rutledge, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021. He was a Vietnam Veteran and recently received the Quilt of Valor for his services. Sammy proudly served his community in the Rutledge Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years. Sammy will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Helen Owens; and brother, Robert “Bobby” Owens.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce Owens; son, Michael Owens; daughters, Pamela (Bill) Duncan and Jamie (Jayme) Dalton; grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie, William, Savannah, Leah, Rachel, Jayme Jr. and Braxton; brother, Billy (Nancy) Owens; sisters, Clara (Billy Joe) Rainwater and Mary Dawn Buckner; half-sister, Barbara Huckabee; sister-in-law, Linda Owens; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends stopped by Smith-Reagan Funeral Home at their convenience Friday, February 12, 2021 from noon until 5 p.m.
Family received friends Friday, February 12, 2021 from 5 until 7 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Scott Howerton and Rev. George Miller officiating.
Friends and family met Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 10:45 a.m. at Smith-Reagan Funeral Home and proceeded to Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery for a noon graveside service with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Cline Hancock, Wade Shields, Gary Hines, Chris Daugherty, Jeff Howard, Randy Morgan and Carl Hutchinson.
Honorary Pallbearers were the Rutledge Volunteer Fire Department.
