NASHVILLE – Top ten teams will match up Friday, January 14 when the Grainger High School Grizzlies and Lady Grizzlies host Greeneville High School in a District 2 AAA contest at the Grainger gym.

RUTLEDGE – The Rutledge Middle School Lady Pioneers got back to action Tuesday, January 4 following Christmas break and found themselves in what head coach Deeann Stratton described as a “chess match” against East Ridge Middle School.

PIGEON FORGE – Santa brought the Grainger High School Grizzlies a late Christmas gift. They went 3-0 to win the King of the Smokies basketball tournament and wrap up the first half of the 2021-22 basketball season. 

KNOXVILLE – A first quarter blitz helped South-Doyle High School to a 23-5 first quarter lead and the Washburn High School Lady Pirates never recovered in a 48-29 defeat at the Berean Christian School holiday tournament Wednesday,

KNOXVILLE – The Washburn High School Pirates basketball team went on a 13-point run to end the first quarter and were never behind in a 61-54 win over Berean Christian Academy in the host’s holiday tournament Tuesday, December 28.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA – In their lives, the Washburn High School Lady Pirates and their traveling companions probably had not seen the gym parking lot at such an early hour, but there they were, boarding buses at 3:30 a.m. for a trip to the Magic Kingdom. 

RUTLEDGE – In a game against Campbell County earlier in the season, Grainger High School head basketball coach Adam Wolfenbarger drew up a play to get the ball to Ty Overbay for a big shot. The senior hit that shot and came through again on the exact same play Monday, December 20. 

RUTLEDGE – Two teams who have enjoyed a great deal of success on the hardwood the past several years met at The Den Monday, December 20 when Grainger High School hosted North Greene High School. 

RUTLEDGE – Grainger High School junior Brady Smith was honored prior to the Grizzlies’ basketball game against Cosby Friday, December 17 for being selected as an All-State baseball player in 2021. 

WASHBURN – The Rutledge Elementary Lady Pioneers capped off an unbeaten season with a championship and the Washburn Elementary School Pirates won their second straight title in the county basketball tournament played last week in Washburn.

MORRISTOWN – Rutledge Middle School Lady Pioneers fell to undefeated Lincoln Heights Middle School for the second time this season 51-34 Monday, December 13.

WASHBURN – A career-high 27 points from senior guard Rance Shipe were not enough to overcome the hot-shooting Gibbs High School Eagles, who took down Washburn 76-56 Monday, December 6.

JACKSBORO – A season-low in points sent the Grainger High School Lady Grizzlies basketball team to their first loss of the season. They dropped a hard-fought 41-39 contest at Campbell County Friday, December 3.

WASHBURN – The Washburn High School Lady Pirates withstood a furious second-half rally to defeat Gibbs High School 54-48 Monday, December 6.

RUTLEDGE – Four wins in four games was the result of the Pizza Plus Thanksgivig Classic for the Grainger High School Grizzlies basketball team.
