Lady Grizzlies quality for regional tournament

ROGERSVILLE – Post-season play began for the Grainger High School Lady Grizzlies volleyball team and head coach Jessica Maxey’s club made the most of the opportunity. Grainger qualified for the regional by advancing all the way to the district final.

Play started with a 3-1 win over Cherokee High School.

Then, in game two, the third-seeded Lady Grizzlies exacted some revenge when they upset second-seed Chuckey-Doak High School 3-1 after falling to them twice in the regular season.

That win moved them to a match against regular season champion Greeneville High School, where they played tough but dropped a 3-0 decision to the powerful Lady Greene Devils.

Grainger bounced host team Cherokee in the consolation bracket game to earn another shot at Greeneville.

The result was the same with the Lady Greene Devils winning 3-0. Despite the loss, Grainger punched their ticket to the regional tournament that will be held this week in Bluff City. The four team regional bracket includes the Lady Grizzlies, Greeneville, Sullivan East and Tennessee High.

With the conclusion of the regular season comes accolades and they poured in for the Lady Grizzlies. Maddie Hurst was named the District 2AA Hitter of the Year and Davie Harbin was selected to the All-District team. Members of the All-District Tournament team were Jordan Judlin and Hurst.

It was not just on the court where the Lady Grizzlies enjoyed success this season as 12 Grainger players were named to the District

All-Academic Team. Those members were Davie Harbin, Jordan Judlin, Madi Phillips, Lydia Foster, Katy Roach, Alyvia Sneed, Marly Tanner, Eliza Allen, Maddie Hurst, Catelin Newman, Alison Willis and KatiAnn Dossett.
