RUTLEDGE – It was back to their winning ways for the Grainger High School Lady Grizzlies basketball team as they downed Claiborne High School on the road 66-41 Tuesday, January 31. Adison Hayes scored 14 points in the first half to give her team a 28-12 lead at the break. The Lady Grizzlies salted the game away to start the third period as they reeled off 14 points and only surrendered two. Maddie Hurst scored 24 points for the victorious Lady Grizzlies with Hayes added 18 more.
Things did not go as well for the Lady Grizzlies Friday, February 3. They dropped a 59-37 decision to the 6th-ranked Greeneville High School Lady Greene Devils. Grainger only trailed by one point late in the opening period but Greeneville scored seven quick points in the final 14 seconds to go up by eight and the Lady Grizz never recovered.
The offense continued to struggle in the second and third periods but Grainger finally found some success in the final frame. Hurst scored five of the Lady Grizzlies’ 12 points in the fourth period. Hurst was the only Grainger player to post double-digit scoring and she finished with 12 points.
Grainger plays three games this week with home contests against Cosby and Cumberland Gap high schools sandwiched around a road trip to Rogersville to take on Cherokee High School.
