Lady Pioneers

RUTLEDGE – The Rutledge Middle School junior varsity Lady Pioneers hosted White Pine Middle School Friday, October 1 in the first round of the JV tournament. The JV began the tournament ranked as the two seed due to a strong regular season in which the Lady Pioneers lost only two conference games.

Rutledge defeated the Lady Cyclones in straight sets 25-16 and 25-17. Allie Trent had her best serving night of the season, recording 14 serving points and four aces. Morgan Wilson helped the effort with six kills.

In the semifinal game, played Monday, October 4, the Lady Pioneers met East Ridge Middle School at host school Maury Middle School. Rutledge split their regular season matches with the Lady Bears, with each team winning on their home court. East Ridge won the rubber match (the final and deciding game in any series) on the neutral court by a score of 25-18 and 25-15.

After the game, coach Sydney McCubbins told the girls they had their moments where they played really well, and they had their moments where they hurt themselves with mental mistakes.

Top server on the night for the Lady Pioneers was Morgan Wilson with seven serving points.

Head coach Beau Rich said, “East Ridge especially outplayed us at the net, as we recorded only two kills as a team the entire match.”

With the JV tournament in the books, Rich added, “It was a great season, regardless of the loss, and losing only twice out of 14 conference games is still really good.”
