Rutledge takes care of East Ridge

RUTLEDGE – The Rutledge Middle School Lady Pioneers got back to action Tuesday, January 4 following Christmas break and found themselves in what head coach Deeann Stratton described as a “chess match” against East Ridge Middle School.

The Lady Pioneers took an early 7-0 lead before the Lady Bears took a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Rutledge went cold and scored only two more points in the first quarter to hold a 9-6 lead.

Defense ruled the second quarter as each team scored only two more points before the half. The Lady Bears continued to rally and tied the score at 17 by the end of the third quarter.

East Ridge battled on and took a 21-20 lead with four minutes left in the game. From that point the Lady Pioneers defense took over and they struggled to a 30-26 win.

Adison Hayes led the scoring with 20 points, followed by Ava Dellinger with six points and Cora Dalton added four points.
